AkzoNobel Q2 Profit Flat

AkzoNobel reported that its second-quarter profit from continuing operations was almost flat at €273 million. Earnings per share from continuing operations were €1.07 compared to €1.05 in the previous year quarter. Net income for the period was €268 million, lower than €273 million in the prior year quarter. Earnings per share from total operations decreased to €1.14 from €1.16 in the same quarter last year. more

Safe Savings - The Future Of Chlorine Electrolysis

Salt tends to cake when transported or stored without special additives. So back in the 1950s we developed ferrocyanide (also called YPS), a powerful anti-caking agent for salt that effectively prevented lumps forming and made it instantly ready for use in industry.
But times change and technology evolves. Membrane electrolysis is the new standard in chlorine production - but ferrocyanide isn't removed during brine purification, putting YPS-salt at a cost disadvantage. more

AkzoNobel Shares Jump, But Takeover Seems A Stretch

Shares of Dutch chemical group AkzoNobel surged on talk of private equity takeover interest, traders said, though a deal would be improbably hard to fund, given its 11 billion euro market value. Any leveraged buyout would be easily the biggest such deal since the credit crisis began to bite in mid-2007, and at least three times the size of 2010's biggest deal, KKR's purchase of Del Monte Foods for $5.3 billion including debt. more

AkzoNobel Invests €90 Million in New Facility in Brazil for World's Largest Paper Mill

AkzoNobel has invested close to €90 million in a new facility being built in Brazil. The plant, operated by the company's Pulp and Paper Chemicals business, Eka Chemicals, will supply the world's largest pulp mill. The agreement - with Eldorado Celulose e Papel - will help drive AkzoNobel's the medium-term strategy of doubling revenue in Brazil to €1.5 billion. It also underlines the value the company attaches to securing long-terms partnerships with customers. more

Knut Schwalenberg Appointed Managing Director of Akzo Nobel Industrial Chemicals

Knut Schwalenberg has been appointed Managing Director of Akzo Nobel Industrial Chemicals. Schwalenberg succeeds Werner Fuhrmann, who has been appointed to Akzo Nobel's new executive committee, with responsibility for Integrated Supply Chain. Schwalenberg studied business economics at Essen University, Germany. He joined Akzo Nobel more than 25 years ago and has held a number of management functions in human resources, control and general management, including that of general manager of Akzo Nobel's Chlor-Alkali business. more
