Air Products said it has entered into a long-term agreement with Shell for the supply of a significant portion of the hydrogen requirements at Shell's Deer Park refinery in Texas. The hydrogen supply will commence in mid-2013.

Arabian Industrial Fibers Co (Ibn Rushd), an affiliate of Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC), signed contracts with Taiwan's CTCI and China's Sinopec Engineering to expand its capacity, SABIC said.
The contract with CTCI would double Ibn Rushd's aromatics production capacity to 1.2 million tons per year from 560,000 tons and more than double its terephthalic acid capacity to 750,000 tons per year, SABIC said in an emailed statement. It did not give the value of the deals.

Sabic expects to decide by the end of this year on bids for the expansion of its affiliate Arabian Industrial Fibers (Ibn Rushd), its chief executive said on Sunday.
Ibn Rushd's complex in Yanbu, on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, produces aromatics, purified terephthalic acid (PTA) which is used in making polyester, and polyester staples.
After the expansion, Ibn Rushd's PTA capacity would rise to 700,000 tons per year (tpy) from 350,000 tpy currently.

When the news broke in November 2009 that both Dow and BASF were looking to sell their styrene assets, the race to find buyers was on. Now, seven months later, BASF still owns its assets, saying that they are performing well and that they are in no hurry to sell. Dow, however, recently closed the sale of its Styron unit to global private investment firm Bain Capital Partners. Now a standalone company, Styron is setting out to maintain its leading position in latex and polystyrene production.

Süd-Chemie, a leading manufacturer of industrial catalysts based in Munich, Germany, and GTC Technology, Houston, Texas, U.S., a global technology licensing and engineering company for chemical and petrochemical applications, have reached agreement on a strategic alliance. As part of this alliance agreement, Süd-Chemie has acquired a 25% share in GTC.
