Industrial gas supplier Air Products and Chemicals's quarterly profit just missed Wall Street's expectations as weak economic conditions in Europe dented volumes.
In the second quarter ended March 31, net income fell to $296 million, or $1.38 a share, from $304.3 million, or $1.39 a share, a year earlier.

Airgas today announced it has signed a strategic agreement with BAE Systems, the UK-based defense and aerospace company. Airgas will supply BAE System's manufacturing locations throughout the U.S. with bulk and packaged industrial gas, welding hardgoods and related products and personal protective equipment (PPE) products.
The five-year agreement will be part of the Airgas strategic accounts program which serves multi-location customers who benefit from sole-source supply and supply chain management services.

Industrial gases maker Praxair said on Monday it would expand its business in the Middle East by buying a 49% stake in the ROC Group's businesses in three countries from the Al Khaled family of Kuwait.
Financial details of the transaction for the operations in Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Qatar were not released. The ROC Group's sales in those countries totaled about $80 million in 2009.

Air Products today announced that it has signed a long-term contract to supply oxygen, nitrogen and argon to Arcelormittal Belgium, a subsidiary of Arcelormittal, at its steel mill in Gent, Belgium.
