LyondellBasell has sold its Flavors & Fragrances business to Pinova Holdings.
"This divestiture is consistent with our objective to focus on developing our core businesses of olefins and polyolefins, intermediates and derivatives, and refining and oxyfuels," said LyondellBasell CEO Jim Gallogly. LyondellBasell said the transaction results in after-tax proceeds of approximately $150 million.

The German advertising tagline "greed is good" is now outmoded as a basic principle of purchasing. A low purchase price does not mean that a product is actually inexpensive. Therefore the saying, "Those who buy cheap buy twice" often applies. As it would seem, this commonplace insight for consumer goods also applies in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Quality obviously does not always correlate with price.

Saltigo, a wholly owned subsidiary of specialty chemicals group Lanxess, is significantly expanding production at its Leverkusen site. This is being made possible by a cooperation agreement with Syngenta. The manufacturer of crop protection agents and long-standing customer of Saltigo is investing some € 50 million in expanding several Saltigo facilities in Leverkusen to significantly enhance its capacity for synthesizing active ingredients for crop protection agents.
