They Run and Run and Run…

As part of the company's 40th anniversary, Flowserve Essen took a project-specific retrospective look. Among other things the review focused on an installation that could be considered as quite unusual. Testing, Testing?

Reduced Inspections - A Partial Stroke Test (PST) at defined intervals can effectively prevent malfunctions. A successful test indicates that the valve performance is OK and that any corrosion or encrustation has been removed. The valve seat and plug is free again and it is ready for action in an emergency. The solenoid valves, which exhaust the air from the valve in an emergency, can get stuck too, as they are also held in the open position nearly all of the time. more

Top Priority in Availability and Energy Costs

There is still considerable potential for reducing the operating costs of existing systems in primary industry. Particularly on continuous-flow machines such as pumps and compressors that operate at partial load, changing to high-efficiency motors and variable-speed drives can reduce energy consumption by as much as 50%. The payback period for a frequency converter can be as short as a few months. more
