UK chemicals company Synthomer is selling its laminates, films and coated fabrics businesses to Germany’s Surteco Group for $255 million. The sale is part of Synthomer’s realignment of its portfolio to focus on specialty chemicals.

EU Fines Styrene Buyers for Cartel

The European Commission has fined five companies a total of €157 million for forming a styrene cartel that operated from May 2012 to June 2018. Affected are Sunpor, Synbra, Synthomer, Synthos and Trinseo. As the member that blew the whistle in 2017, Ineos escaped a fine.

Synthomer Completes Eastman Resins Acquisition

UK chemicals company Synthomer completed its $1 billion acquisition of Eastman Chemical’s adhesive resins business on Apr. 1. The business will form a new division called Adhesive Technologies. Synthomer said the business has a leading position in the global adhesives market, which is exposed to attractive end-markets with resilient GDP+ growth fundamentals.
