AkzoNobel mTA-Salt

Salt tends to cake when transported or stored without special additives. So back in the 1950s we developed ferrocyanide (also called YPS), a powerful anti-caking agent for salt that effectively prevented lumps forming and made it instantly ready for use in industry.  But times change and technology evolves. Membrane electrolysis is the new standard in chlorine production - but ferrocyanide isn't removed during brine purification, putting YPS-salt at a cost disadvantage.  more

Industry Meets School

Learning By Doing - The research team weighs a plastic granule on the integrated scale of a microwave dryer. The members of the technology team are huddling over a table with drying data to determine whether the granule is ready to be processed. The design team makes color decisions after determining the available colors by working with the technology and the research team. Meanwhile, the communications team is busy documenting the daylong production process. more

Higher Yields And Less Waste

Innovation - Biodiesel, the methyl ester of fatty acid, has been accepted as a renewablesourced alternative to fossil-derived diesel fuel. Today, in many parts of the world, biodiesel is already blended with diesel fuel upwards of 5%. As demand for this fuel increases, so do raw material prices. Since the raw material prices account for approximately 90% of the manufactured biodiesel cost, manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to reduce their raw material cost burden. more
