Celanese Stops Mexican Amines Production

01.08.2016 -

Following a business review, US technology and specialty materials company Celanese has decided to stop production, storage and distribution of monomethylamine (MMA) at Cangrejera, Mexico, saying the business is no longer viable. The decision applies to both anhydrous and 50% solution grades of MMA.

The Dallas, Texas-headquartered company said the site will continue to make dimethylamine (DMA) and trimethylamine (TMA) with a focus on growing and expanding its amines business, along with other key acetyl products manufactured at the site. Monomethylamine production equipment at Cangrejera has been converted to exclusively produce DMA and TMA.
