05.02.2020 -

German specialty chemicals producer Lanxess has completed the acquisition of Brazilian biocides specialist Itibanyl Produtos Especiais (IPEL) following approval of the deal by the relevant anti-trust authorities at the beginning of January.

Based at Jarinu, São Paulo, IPEL claims to be one of Brazil’s leading biocide manufacturers, with 2018 sales in the lower double-digit million euro range. Along with biocides, it also produces specialty chemicals for paints and coatings.

The portfolio of the company with around 100 employee also extends to preservatives and fungicides for process control in water treatment as well as active ingredients for disinfection and cleaning agents. The acquisition includes all staff and production as well as R&D facilities.

Lanxess said acquiring IPEL will help to strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of antimicrobial active ingredients and formulations.
