Mexico Approves Dow-DuPont Merger

28.06.2017 -

Mexico's Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece), the country’s regulatory authority, has become the seventh to greenlight the planned $130 million merger of Dow and DuPont.

Permission was granted early this week on grounds that the two US chemical giants sell certain crop protection products and other assets. The divestments required are similar to the conditions mandated by antitrust authorities in other jurisdictions.

Cofece has said Dow must sell its ethylene acrylic acid (EAA) copolymers and ionomers business, used to package food and other goods. DuPont has been asked to sell an insecticide business.

To date, the EU, the US, China, Brazil, South Africa and Australia have approved the deal. Canada is now the lone holdout.

Dow has six subsidiaries in Mexico, DuPont has 11.
