New Combined Circle Power Plant for Evonik at Marl

28.06.2013 -

German electrical power giant Siemens and energy conglomerate E.on are collaborating on a new 60 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant for the Marl, Germany, complex of chemical producer Evonik. Scheduled to be in operation by 2015, the new facility will replace an older coal-fired unit.

Switching from coal to gas will help Evonik to reduce carbon emissions at Marl, its largest German production site, by about 280,000 t annually and ensure the site's continued energy supply. The chemical producer will control and have operational and legal responsibility for the power plant, while E.on will plan, finance and build the facility.
