Dow and LG Unveil Quantum Dot Technology for TVs

12.01.2015 -

Dow Chemical and LG Electronics have unveiled their cadmium-free quantum dot technology for LG's new Ultra HD TVs with quantum dots developed in a cooperation between the US chemical giant and the electronics arm of the Korean conglomerate.

In a presentation at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Dow said its quantum dot technology, licensed from Nanoco, "enables brilliant color in displays" and also allows LG to plan its quantum dot requirements with the confidence of reliable, consistent supply.

On January 23, 2013, Dow Electronic Materials and Nanoco entered a global licensing agreement for Nanoco's technology. Under the terms, Dow has exclusive worldwide rights for the sale, marketing and manufacture of Nanoco's cadmium-free quantum dots for use in electronic displays. The manufacturing process will utilize Nanoco's patented, molecular-seeding technology, which enables high-volume manufacturing.
