Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS and Alfa Laval Cooperate in Millireactor Technology

19.09.2013 -

Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS (EMB), a subsidiary of Bayer Technology Services, has acquired a worldwide license from Alfa Laval to market and manufacture ART reactor technology. With these millistructured plate reactors, which are used in laboratory, pilot and production plants, EMB is now the leading supplier of metal micro- and millistructured reactors and apparatus.

"The ART reactor technology from Alfa Laval enables us to ideally round out our portfolio of innovative, robust plate reactors for production use," said EMB Managing Director Dr. Joachim Heck. "Their high performance really shines when it comes to fast and extremely exothermic or endothermic - and thus very demanding - reactions."

Micro- and millireactor technology offers substantial advantages over batch and other reactors, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry as well as in the fine and specialty chemicals industries. In addition to numerous other aspects, the outstanding heat transfer and simple scale-up provide advantage for process intensification with respect to yield, costs and safety.

"Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS is a highly-qualified and experienced partner that will hold the exclusive rights to our ART reactor technology in the future. We secure that our customers will continue to be served with proven technology and expert knowledge," said Alex Syed, Vice President and Head of Alfa Laval´s Corporate Development, underscoring the importance of the transaction. "We are pleased that we were able to enter into a license agreement with such a prominent company as Alfa Laval, which has for decades been among the best in the world for heat transfer, mixing, separation and continuous fluid handling technologies," said Heck at contract signing.
