Evonik Buys Spain’s Infinitec Activos

17.06.2021 - Evonik has entered into an agreement to buy Infinitec Activos, a privately owned Spanish company that specializes in the development and production of novel delivery systems for cosmetic active ingredients. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Infinitec creates new active ingredients with different properties, for example anti-aging, whitening or slimming, using several techniques such as nanotechnology applications and peptide synthesis. The company has 47 employees in total, working at its head office in the Barcelona Science Park, its manufacturing facility in Montornés del Vallés, and at its raw material producer, Naturethic. Customers include both small independent brands as well as global key accounts.

Evonik said the acquisition adds seven proprietary delivery systems to its existing business and enlarges its bio actives portfolio with several new natural-based active ingredients. “Proven active delivery systems offer great opportunities to innovate new cosmetic ingredients with scientifically proven claims. This allows our personal care customers to differentiate,” said Yann d'Hervé, head of Evonik's Care Solutions business line.

The Essen-based group added that the strong technological and strategic fit between the companies supports the portfolio shift of Evonik’s life science division Nutrition & Care – to which Care Solutions belongs – toward system solutions, which are characterized by high growth prospects and above average margin potential.  Nutrition & Care aims to increase the share of system solutions it offers from 20% currently to more than 50% by 2030.

Once the transaction is concluded, Evonik will integrate Infinitec Activos into the Care Solutions business, complementing the January 2017 purchase of Air Products’ specialty additives/active delivery systems business.  Since 2016, Nutrition & Care has acquired 10 companies, which has opened new markets, accelerated growth and created significant value, Evonik said.
