Sinovac Aims for 2 Billion Covid Vaccines Annually

06.04.2021 - Chinese vaccine manufacturer Sinovac has doubled projected annual output of its Covid-19 shot to 2 billion doses per year, up from the 1 billion estimated in February this year when it received Chinese government approval. The company said last week it had started up a new commercial plant.

Already, Sinovac said it has delivered some 200 million doses of its vaccine to more than 20 countries, with more than 100 million doses already administered around the world. Its product has received emergency authorization or conditional marketing approval in more than 30 countries, including Turkey, Mexico and Indonesia.

Like the AstraZeneca shot, efficacy figures for Sinovac have bounced around. After reports from Brazil said it was 78% effective, the figure was later downgraded to 50.4%. Adding to the confusion, interim data from a Phase 3 trial in Turkey put the figure at 91.25%.
