Tecnimont Wins EPC Contracts Worth $3.5 Billion from Borouge

09.12.2021 - Italian contractor Tecnimont has signed three contracts with Borouge for engineering, procurement construction (EPC) services on the polyolefins expansion in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. The value of the turnkey contracts, which Tecnimont said were awarded on the basis of a competitive bidding process, totals about $3.5 billion.

Tecnimont’s work on the Borouge 4 complex relates to the two PE plants, each with a capacity of 700,000 t/y, the 1-hexene unit, the cross-linkable PE plant and the utilities and offsites facilities for the whole project.

In addition to EPC services, the contractor will provide equipment and materials, commissioning and start-up assistance. The complex, said to be the world’s largest single-site polyolefin facility, is expected to be completed by 2025.

Tecnimont previously provided front end engineering and design services on Borouge 4 in 2020, and also worked on the Borouge 1, 2 and 3 complexes. The company added that it has leveraged its NextPlant portfolio of digital solutions to make Borouge 4 a “future-ready” industrial complex.

“Our portfolio of digital solutions combined with our technology-driven process expertise will ensure the highest plant assets’ optimization and the best environmentally performing standards,” said Maire Tecnimont Group CEO Pierroberto Folgiero.
