Tecnimont Wins Two US Projects

13.04.2022 - Tecnimont, part of Italian engineering and technology group Maire Tecnimont, has won two contracts in the US from the same company. The contracts, worth $415 million in total, were granted by an undisclosed “global chemicals producer.”

The first award – worth $230 million – is for the provision of engineering, procurement and construction management services for a blue ammonia plant with a capacity of 3,000 t/d.

The second award – worth $185 million – will see Tecnimont provide technology from Stamicarbon (also part of Maire Tecnimont), full engineering activities, all materials and equipment and construction supervision services for a new urea Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) plant with a capacity of 1,500 t/d. Feedstock will be provided by the aforementioned blue ammonia plant. Known as AdBlue in Europe, DEF is added to diesel engines to limit the emission of nitrogen oxides.

“This new contract awarded on the back of the blue ammonia one confirms our steady growth in the US downstream market with innovative projects aimed at reducing the plants’ carbon footprint. These two back-to-back contracts represent the perfect example of our technology-driven strategy: leveraging synergies within our group through Stamicarbon’s undisputed leadership in urea technology, Tecnimont’s strong capability as an EPCM contractor and our deep knowledge of the US energy arena and its players,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of the Maire Tecnimont Group.

A construction contract will be awarded separately to an external company not belonging to the Maire Tecnimont group. Completion of both plants is expected in 2025. A location for the facilities was not disclosed.
