Hovione has completed a $100 million investment to double spray-drying capacity and expand its East Windsor, New Jersey site, positioning the facility to meet growing US demand.

Lisbon, Portugal-headquartered Hovione has completed significant expansions in Europe and the USA. The investments at the facilities in East Windsor, New Jersey, and Ringaskiddy, Cork, significantly increase the global capacities of the CDMO (contract development and manufacturing organization) for spray drying for pharma applications and improve the sites' capabilities.

Portuguese CDMO Hovione has expanded its continuous manufacturing capabilities with the start-up of a new facility at Loures. The company said it can now offer customers a commercial continuous tableting platform to support their key needs.

So far, the pharmaceutical industry — including CMOs/CDMOs and CROs — has responded well to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the coronavirus crisis has uncovered problems that have been smoldering beneath the surface and need to be addressed. That supply chains are vulnerable to disruption when major development, production and transportation hubs are blocked or shut down has become painfully obvious.

Jean-Luc Herbeaux has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hovione, effective May 1, 2020.
