Intelligent Flow Diagrams for the Digital Future

The piping & instrumentation flow diagram (P&ID for short) is one of the central documents in plant planning - and yet its role is changing fundamentally in the course of digitalization.

Where static drawings have long been sufficient, semantic models are now being created that more closely interlink process engineering processes, operation and maintenance. Brownfield plant operators in particular are often faced with the challenge of how to digitize existing flow diagrams and add engineering data to them.

The piping and instrumentation flow diagram serves as a central master document for all trades involved in plant planning. It provides a clear overview of the entire process - from apparatus and piping to measuring and safety equipment. This creates a common, binding basis for detailed planning, approval procedures and safety assessments.
