German Industry Output Growth Beat Forecasts in May

German industrial output jumped in May, rising twice as fast as economists predicted thanks mainly to higher production of capital goods along with a downward revision to April's figures, data showed on Thursday. The economy ministry said production in the manufacturing, construction and energy sectors increased by 1.2% compared to April, when it fell by 0.8%, beating expectations from a Reuters survey for a rise of 0.6%. more

Russia Gazprom Mulls Gas Power Generation In Germany

Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom is looking to participate in gas power generation projects in Germany after a decision on phasing out nuclear energy, export chief Alexander Medvedev said on Monday. "To replace atomic power generation with gas, investment needs to begin now ... We don't intend on just being a gas supplier. India is exploring payments via Turkey for oil imports from Iran, an Indian oil ministry source said on Wednesday, as the two countries search for a way to settle their trade after a long standing clearing system was scrapped by New Delhi. The German government demanded clarity from the biofuel industry on whether it will continue with a planned roll-out of gasoline with a higher biofuel content after its association send mixed messages about a halt. "The confusion that the biofuel industry is causing is not acceptable," Environment Minister Norbert Roettgen told journalists on Thursday after the MWV association denied a media report that the roll-out of the fuel, known as E10, would be temporarily halted. more

Norbert Steiner Confident on K+S' Potash One Takeover

German fertilizer producer K+S is confident it will be successful in its planned takeover of Canada's Potash One, the company's chief executive told a German paper.Asked whether the takeover would be successful, K+S CEO told Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung in an interview published on Sunday: "We think so, as we have made an attractive offer." K+S in late November said it was planning to buy Potash One for C$434 million ($431.8 million). "But the takeover is not a done deal yet, our offer to Potash One shareholders runs until Jan. 18, 2011," he said. more

K+S Considers Switching to Registered Shares

German potash miner K+S is considering replacing its bearer shares with registered shares, a move that would hamper sneak takeover approaches. "We are looking into whether this makes sense for us," a company spokesman told Reuters on Monday, adding that no decision has been made yet. By switching to registered shares, whose owners have to disclose their identity to the company, K+S would follow the example of fellow DAX members BASF and Adidas, who completed the swap this year. more

German Chemical Sector Grows 17% in Q3

Germany-based chemicals businesses posted an increase in sales of 17% in the third quarter, trade group VCI said, adding that growth rates were levelling off as government stimulus measures fade out. VCI, which represents the nation's fourth-largest industrial sector, said it still expects chemical-sector revenues to gain 18% this year, with output volumes rising 11%. more
