Lanxess Starts Up New NBR Plant in China

German specialty chemicals company Lanxess has started up on schedule a nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) plant in Nantong, China, as part of its 50:50 joint venture with Taiwan's TSRC Corporation. The two companies have jointly invested $50 million (approx. €39 million) in the new plant, which has an initial annual capacity of 30,000 metric tons. Some 100 new jobs have been created through the investment. more

Sasol Expands UHPA Capacity at German Site

Sasol's Olefins & Surfactants Division (headquarters in Hamburg, Germany) announced today it will expand in a first step its capacity to produce ultra-high purity aluminas (UHPA) by at least 3000 metric tons per year. more

UK, Korean Firms Picked for Saudi Petchem Project

Saudi Aramco and Japan's Sumitomo Chemical have issued letters of intent to at least two contractors who submitted the lowest bids to expand a petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia, moving a step closer to a decision on whether to proceed with the major project, industry sources said. more

BASF Opens New North American Headquarters

BASF on Friday celebrated the official opening of BASF's new North American headquarters building in Florham Park, New Jersey. The 325,000 square foot building was developed in partnership with the Rockefeller Group Development Corporation. BASF also announced that it will be adding a formic acid plant at its Geismar, Louisiana, production facility.   more

Lanxess Strengthens Its Butyl Rubber Site in Belgium

Specialty chemicals company Lanxess is strengthening its butyl rubber plant in Zwijndrecht, Belgium. The company has significantly invested to expand the production capacity of the existing plant and to build two new pilot plants for the development of production technology for butyl rubber. The biggest share of butyl rubber produced in Zwijndrecht is premium halobutyl rubber. more

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Evonik's New Hydrogen Peroxide Plant in Jilin (China)

An official ceremony was held on April 21, 2012 to mark the groundbreaking for Evonik's new hydrogen peroxide plant in China. The plant is scheduled to go online, with a planed annual production capacity of 230,000 metric tons, at the end of 2013, thus increasing Evonik's current overall annual capacity for around 600,000 metric tons of H2O2 production by nearly 40%. more

CNPC, PDVSA to Start Building Joint Refinery in Late April

State-run China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) and Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) will start building their mega joint refinery on China's southern coast later this month, a move would pave the way for more Venezuelan oil to flow to the world's second-largest oil user. more

BASF to Invest in New Chemical Production Site in Dahej, India

BASF India will invest €150 million to set up a new chemical production site at the Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR), located on the west coast of India in Gujarat. The new site will be an integrated hub for polyurethane manufacturing and will also house production facilities for care chemicals and polymer dispersions for coatings and paper. The start of production is planned for 2014. more

Lanxess: New Plastics Application Development Center in Hong Kong

Lanxess is strengthening its ties with automotive customers in the growing Asia-Pacific region. The specialty chemicals company will open a new application development center in the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park in the second half of 2012. more
