The Barcelona-based family company focuses on the coatings, construction, adhesives, industrial cleaning, textile and water treatment, food, feed and pharma sectors. Active in the Spanish market for more than 40 years, it has recently expanded to Portugal and North Africa.

Proquibasa has two main warehouses in Barcelona and Madrid, as well as a network of warehouse locations across both Spain and Portugal.

Oqema’s CEO Peter Overlack said he is “looking forward to expanding and developing the business on the Iberian Peninsula”, which until now has been a geographical gap in the German distributor’s portfolio.

The takeover follows two other acquisitions so far this year. Oqema bought a majority share in Austria’s CB Chemie and acquired Hamburg, Germany-based Claus Nitsche & Sohn, which specializes in high-quality essential oils, natural flavors and fragrance ingredients.
