Belgian chemical distributor Azelis, through its subsidiary Azelis Americas, has completed its acquisition of Megafarma, a Mexican specialty distributor for the pharma, food and veterinary industries.

Financial terms of the deal that was announced in December 2019 were not disclosed. The company founded in 1973 is headquartered at Mexico City and has a presence in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

Frank Bergonzi, CEO and president of Azelis Americas, said Megafarma, which posted double-digit sales growth in the period 2016 to 2018, will provide access to a promising market and create a strong platform for growth in the global specialty chemicals and food segments.

“Our expectation is to expand the strategic supplier relationships we have in the US and Canada in the food and pharma segments,” Bergzoni said. Through the acquisition, he said Azelis Americas will increase its Life Sciences footprint and will have a platform from which to enter other key market segments in Mexico.

All of Megafarma’s staff and operations will remain in place.
