IMCD Buys Brazil’s VitaQualy

21.08.2020 - Dutch distributor IMCD has acquired VitaQualy Comercio de Ingredientes, a supplier of specialty ingredients for the food, nutrition, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets in Brazil. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“The acquisition of VitaQualy aligns with our company’s global food & nutrition strategy to offer trend-based solutions and the distribution of specialty ingredients around four main pillars – taste, texture, nutrition and function,” said Nicolas Kaufmann, managing director/Brazil at IMCD. “The synergies between IMCD and VitaQualy will create opportunities to develop our offering to suppliers and customers, while further strengthening our foothold as a specialty distribution leader in Brazil.”

VitaQualy generated revenues of 26 million Brazilian reals in 2019 and adds eight employees to IMCD’s Brazilian team.

Acquisitions boost H1 profits

IMCD has posted a 7% rise in operating EBITA for the first half of 2020, reaching €131.4  million, the combined result of organic growth and the first-time inclusion of acquisitions that closed in 2019 and 2020. Revenues edged up 1% to just above €1.4 billion.

Although the market circumstances due to the Covid-19 crisis were challenging, in Q2 we were able to improve our operating EBITA by 4% due to a strong performance in the Americas and Asia-Pacific,” said IMCD’s CEO, Piet van der Slikke.

Operating EBITA in the Americas was 13% higher year on year at €47.6 million while in Asia-Pacific it jumped 26% to €21.9 million.

On Jul. 13, IMCD bought the pharmaceutical business of China’s Develing International Trade (Shanghai).
