Solvay and Sapio Partner on Peroxide

12.06.2023 - Solvay is partnering with Italian gases group Sapio to develop green hydrogen peroxide at its site in Rosignano, Italy. A 756 t/y green hydrogen plant will be built by mid-2026, cutting CO2 emissions for peroxides-related operations at the site by 15%.

The partners will jointly develop a large-scale hydrogen production plant on a former industrial area within the site that will be powered by green electricity through the construction of a dedicated 9.5-megawatt photovoltaic installation. Hydrogen capacity will be 756 t/y and used for the production of peroxides at Rosignano. Start-up is due by mid-2026.

Solvay’s CEO Ilham Kadri said the project is the first example of green hydrogen peroxide production at such a scale in Europe. The company has been granted funds of €16 million under the Tuscan region’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan for building the hydrogen plant.
