Wind turbines place high demands on gear oils. Despite constantly changing weather conditions, temperatures and humidity, turbines should operate as maintenance-free as possible for years. The chemical industry has a solution for this.

Synthetic gear oils enable long oil change intervals, a high load capacity and a long gear service life. They also improve energy efficiency because they always guarantee optimum viscosity over a wide temperature range. Until now, gear oils have mostly been based on synthetic formulations containing polyalphaolefins. With Viscobase 11-522, Evonik has now developed a base oil based on polyalkyl methacrylates. Since both the base oil and the formulation technology have passed the tests of leading transmission developers and manufacturers, they can also be used in other applications.
