Asahi Kasei Moves Headquarters of its Healthcare Business to the USA

13.07.2023 - The Japanese technology group Asahi Kasei has moved the headquarters for its healthcare business from Japan to the US for strategic growth.

Primary Executive Officer Health Care, Richard Packer, will lead the fast-growing division from Asahi Kasei's existing offices in the eastern US, in the Boston suburb of Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Asahi Kasei's Health Care business has more than tripled in size since the acquisition of ZOLL Medical, a leading manufacturer of defibrillators and other critical care and emergency medicine solutions, in 2012. The healthcare business offers a wide range of products and services, from innovative medicines for specific therapeutic areas and solutions for severe cardiopulmonary diseases to equipment and services for the production of biotherapeutics.

Koshiro Kudo, President and CEO of Asahi Kasei, said, "By establishing our Healthcare headquarters in the United States, the largest healthcare market and source of most innovation, Asahi Kasei reiterates its commitment to further accelerate the growth of its healthcare business."

Further growth is forecast in the US. Currently, the healthcare business accounts for 18% of Asahi Kasei's sales and 33% of its operating profit (fiscal 2022), and employs over 23% of the workforce. With 78% of its healthcare sales generated outside Japan, the business is a key driver for global corporate growth. The move of the business unit's headquarters will encourage further growth and globalization of the company.
