Speeding Up the Sustainable Transition

The Renewable Materials Conference 2024 Hits the Mark with a New Program

08.03.2024 - The world's largest conference for renewable materials – the Renewable Materials Conference organized by Nova-Institute — will take place in Siegburg near Bonn, Germany, from 11 to 13 June 2024.

The world's largest conference for renewable materials — the Renewable Materials Conference organized by Nova-Institute — will take place in Siegburg near Bonn, Germany, from 11 to 13 June 2024.

In the ongoing battle against climate change it is imperative to limit the consumption of fossil ressources. While the energy sector can adopt decarbonization measures, such a strategy is not viable for organic chemistry, given its reliance on carbon. Therfore, the chemical and material industries must explore alternative carbon sources for the transition towards more sustainable and climate-friendly production ans consumption. These alternative carbon sources are referred to as "renewable carbon".

This is where the Renewable Materials Conference (RMC) comes in to make innovations, technologies, materials, chemicals and products visible in order to support the defossilization of the chemical industry. The RMC is the world's largest event dedicated to chemicals and materials based on biomass, CO2-capture and utilization and recycling, which are the only viable alternatives to fossil carbon. This event offers a unique overview of all renewable material solutions and addresses all stakeholders from the chemical industry and the material sector, product manufacturers, brand owners and investors. Following the success of its predecessor with nearly 500 participants from 32 countries, the Renewable Materials Conference organized by Nova-Institute is scheduled fom 11 – 13 June 2024 at the Rhein-Sieg-Forum in Siegburg near Cologne, Germany.

Conference Sessions Offer a Diverse Range of Topics

The upcoming conference will feature seven main sessions, five parallel sessions, and 12 workshops, showcasing about 80 presentations from speakers representing different countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia, fostering a global exchange of ideas and perspectives. Engaging panel discussions will accompany all sessions that address participants from the industry, policy makers, recyclers and players in the field of sustainability assessment. These sessions are the following:

  • Future of Chemical & Plastic Industry
  • Circular Economy & Renewable Carbon
  • Bio-based Economy in China
  • Fine Chemicals & Functional Applications
  • Adhesives & Coating
  • Building Blocks & Polymers
  • Mechanical, Physical & Chemical Recycling
  • Consumer Perspective & Certification
  • Policy Perspective
  • Sustainability & Life Cycle Assessment
  • Biodegradation
  • Recyclability of Biopolymers, Focus: PHA

The Innovation Award

A highlight of the event is the presentation of the "Renewable Material of the Year 2024" innovation award, sponsored by Covestro. Six nominees that will be announced at the end of March will complete for this prestigious award which recognizes innovation and excellence in the field. Previous winners were Carbios (FR), Colipi (DE), Eastman (US), Kuori (CH), Lactips (FR), LanzaTech (US/CH), Plantics (NL) & Vepa (NL), Traceless Materials (DE) and Twelve (US), which received a great response from the markets after being honoured with the award.

"The Renewable Materials Conference serves as a vital platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange in the renewable materials sector," says Michael Carus, CEO Nova-Institute, and organizer of the RMC. "Our comprehensive approach covers the entire value chain, making RMC the ultimate platform for networking and partnering in the new renewable carbon economy."

Call For Sponsors and Media Partners

Interested parties are invited to participate as sponsors or media partners, offering unparalleled visibility and networking opportunities. An exhibition area and poster presentations will further enrich the conference experience, fostering interaction and idea exchange among industry peers.

The Nova-Institute would like to thank UPM Biochemicals (FI) for supporting the conference as Platin Sponsor, International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) (US), NESTE (FI), TÜV Austria Belgium (BE), Sugar Energy (CN), Zhongke Guosheng Technology (CN) as Gold Sponsors, as well as Alfalaval (SE), B4Plastics (BE), REDcert (DE) and Total Corbion (NL) who support the event as Silver Sponsors. The innovation award “Renewable Material of the Year 2024” is sponsored by Covestro (DE).
